Artist Bio
Matt is currently interested in the interaction between North American wildlife and their surroundings. His firm passion for nature inspires him as he paints. Matt has recently been using larger formats and different paint techniques such as dramatic lightings.
Matt studied at Pennsylvania College of Art and Design in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. With the thought of being an artist that works mainly through wildlife art, he is majoring in fine arts.
Matt was born and raised in Everett, Pennsylvania. He enjoys living far back in the small country valley where he stays connected with the nature all around him. Matt graduated from Bedford High School in 2005. He was awarded the Rebecca Bugle art scholarship award in his senior year.
Since 2006, Matt has exhibited his paintings at many galleries including The Framing Concept, Twisted System Gallery, Masterplan Design, York Art Association, Pennsylvania College of art and Design's Gallery, and the Anderson House.
Artist's Statement
With a firm passion for nature, I find it important to portray its lifelike qualities. I have much interest in the interactions and obstacles that North American wildlife approaches throughout their life. As being an outdoorsman, it is also a desire I have to paint sports fish and game in a very polished and romanticized manner. As it is important to me that I give my paintings as much realism and life as possible, at the same time I focus on movements through the animals as well. Generally oil paints are my preferred medium. Most recently, I have been getting into larger sized canvasses to capture more of the realistic qualities.
